Opportunity to fire on E-Targets this Friday

June 8, 2022

“Note to the Membership – This weekend (June 11 and 12, 2022), BMRPA will host the 2022 North Dakota Long Range State Championship.

On Friday, June 10, we plan to set up e-targets in order to prepare for the weekend event. We intend to have the target set up completed around 5PM. The range may be SHUT DOWN for about an hour on Friday afternoon to set up and calibrate the targets. After the targets are ready (around 5PM) – the range will be open for practice firing from the 600 yard line. We will close down firing on the e-targets around 8pm.

Club members are invited to come out and try out the e-targets. If you never seen e-targets in action – I would encourage you to come out and take a look at this. If you would like to shoot – please make sure you have a least a 200 yard zero. Ammunition should be above trans-sonic velocity at target (approximately 1300 fps – sorry – no Blackpowder cartridge ammo). Also, bring a good shooting rest. E-targets have external microphone that can be damaged (or destroyed) by bullet strikes – so a good zero and a good rest is required.

Bring your smart phone or preferably a tablet (ipad, etc). You do not need a app to make this work on your phone/tablet.

E-targets have a series of microphones (the Shot Marker brand uses 8 microphones) that triangulate the shock wave from the bullet at target. The shot is then plotted on a simulated target displayed on your phone or tablet. The e-target also shows the score of the hit, bullet velocity and standard deviation velocity of the series of shots.

Anyone is more than welcome to check zeros and do some practice firing. Practice firing will probably be done from the 600 yard line (since the rest of the range will NOT be closed on Friday). However, if there are no objections from other members using the range – we MIGHT be able to shoot from 1000 yards.

We ask for a free will donation of $5 to help pay for target costs (repair centers, etc.).

If you have any questions – please contact Tom Thompson

Thank you

Dear BMRPA Members, It is with a heavy heart that I am writing to let all of you know that the BMRPA has lost one of its founding fathers. Marlin Fried, the namesake of the Fried Family Marksmanship Center, passed away this week. He is survived by his wife Leanne, children and grandchildren. While Marlin has not been active as a shooter with BMRPA for several years, we would still occasionally see him at the outdoor range in his red Chevy pickup, tending to the trees he had planted. In years before, many of you might have known Marlin from Gun City, the shop he started on Main Street in Bismarck. For those of you have never made it to Gun City, it was the type of unique gun store we don’t really get to see anymore. Not all of the trees at the Fried Family Marksmanship Center were planted by Marlin but a great many of them were. He embodied the spirit of old men planting trees which they will never live to enjoy the shade of. It was that spirit of providing for future generations and his enthusiasm for marksmanship and firearms ownership that inspired Marlin to donate the land that the Fried Family Marksmanship Center sits on today. The BMRPA, a club founded by competitive shooters coming together never had its own facility before Marlin’s gift. It was that gift by Marlin and the Fried Family that was one of the greatest factors turning the BMRPA into an organization that provides opportunities for competitors, youth and female shooters and provides a space to exercise our freedom. For that gift, we are thankful and appreciate how uncommon an act such as that is. So, Marlin and the Fried Family, we thank you! We also wish to express our condolences to the Fried family for their loss during this sad time. A memorial service will be held at 11:30AM on Monday, January 19, 2026, and visitation will be held Sunday, January 18, at 5:30PM at Bismarck Funeral Home, and 7pm prayer service. https://www.bismarckfuneralhome.com/obituaries/marlin-fried Tom Headrick President, BMRPA
